This is an all-ages event to support at-risk LGBTQ youth in our communities, and proceeds will go towards counseling, support groups, crisis intervention and suicide prevention services.
The
Serious Moonlight Benefit Concert will raise funds to help at-risk LGBTQ youth
in our communities, and the money will be donated to 2 organizations: The Trevor Project, the leading
national organization providing crisis intervention and suicide prevention
services to LGBTQ youth, and MN School
OUTreach, a coalition of Minnesota students, educators, families, community
members, and organizations working within the schools to address the issues of
sexual orientation and gender identity/expression.
Our mission is to raise money and raise awareness for at-risk youth in the western suburbs, as there are very limited crisis intervention services outside of the Twin Cities. This is a chance to give back to the community and help create healthy learning environments that are inclusive, supportive, safe, and where dual orientation and gender identity / expressions are respected.
A LITTLE ABOUT MNSOC:
We are a coalition of
Minnesota students, educators, families, community members, and organizations
working within the broad context of schools to address the issues of sexual
orientation and gender identity/expression.
We organize 4 annual
events to provide resources and spaces that are safe for the LGBTQ community.
Our largest event every year is Q-Quest which is a 2 day youth
conference every fall filled with workshops, entertainment, resource fair, and
an open mic opportunity. Each year we have grown in numbers: in 2016 we served
over 600 attendees. We also host Queer Prom (Mid-April), Youth Pride
(End of May/ Early June), and support Camp One Heartland with programming for Camp
True Colors (a camp just for LGBTQ identified young people that runs on a
sliding fee scale to make it accessible to all).
Outside of our youth
events we also offer quarterly workshops where professionals, community
members, local organizations, students, and families, can attend to network,
build their skills, gain more resources, and see what else they can learn/ do
to better serve our LGBTQ young people.
Founded in 1998 by the creators of the Academy Award®-winning short film TREVOR, The Trevor
Project is the leading national organization providing crisis intervention and suicide prevention
services to LGBTQ young people ages 13-24. Every day, The Trevor Project saves young lives through
its accredited, free and confidential phone, instant message and text messaging crisis intervention
services. A leader and innovator in suicide prevention, The Trevor Project offers the largest safe
social networking community for LGBTQ youth, best practice suicide prevention educational
trainings, resources for youth and adults, and advocacy initiatives. Learn more at
TheTrevorProject.org.
This is an all-ages event.
